NEKRODAWN is one of those bands that generates in me that double sensation of liking and disliking at the same time. They play a spectacular Death Metal, full of many nuances, aggressive, technical when they want it to be, but I am not a big fan of technical Metal. Their work is extremely well executed and with an exceptional sound. When I say “liking”, I mean that part that has to do with the musical and instrumental development of the band. The way they structure and play their songs. Although this new album, “Covenant Of Carnage”, released this August of 2026 under War Anthem Records, could take me to passages of classic Death Metal bands, I must admit that (as throughout the band’s discography, since 2024 when they formed in Sweden), NEKRODAWN sounds very much to me like a type of Death Metal that does not entirely fit my “standards”. That doesn’t mean they make music that is not worth it. This right here that I am saying, is just an opinion to which not much importance should be given. I think my problem with NEKRODAWN is not the music, but the vocal parts that sound harsh (I have already said this same thing in many reviews). But I insist that this is solely and exclusively because I do not like harsh vocals in Death Metal. However, the vocal work that Jonas does is notable. He does his job. And he does it very well. Even if I do not like it. Who cares? One thing has nothing to do with the other and my opinion can perfectly coexist in the same room where he records his vocals. On the other hand, none of the NEKRODAWN members fall under the beginner label. They are all already old lights in the scene and have participated in very important projects. Sometimes I think it happens to certain musicians that they seek to close bands to get away a bit from that feeling of routine, of always playing the same thing. Perhaps that is what all the members of NEKRODAWN are looking for. There is also a bit of “modernism” in NEKRODAWN, but it is perfectly valid, since the band has only been circulating through the corridors of worldwide Death Metal for two years. I want to highlight tracks like ‘Feeding The Greed Machine’, ‘Crowned Devourer’, ‘Drones Of Deceit’ and ‘Desolation Reigns’, since (for me) they are the best on the album, being ‘Crowned Devourer’ the one I liked the most. It has that more classic Death Metal vibe. I like the tempo and I like Jonas’ vocal work much more. This album is, in essence, to bang your head to for almost 46 minutes, hopefully with a good cold beer on the side.
