Let the Posers Fall!

Time flies, I can’t believe that CARDINALS FOLLY was formed in 2007, it feels like yesteryear. Though here, 19 years later, the lads have seven full-length albums under their belt, with this new release “Let The Posers Fall!”. The Fins released the first three albums on Shadow Kingdom Records, before entering a limbo period with albums released by the band and different labels, until 2023’s “Live By The Sword”, released by Dutch Soulseller Records. Now we are nearing the end of 2026 and CARDINALS FOLLY is signed to one of my favorite labels, Italian Cruz Del Sur Music and ready with “Let The Posers Fall!”. The band has always been a tad plagued by line-up changes. The only member through time is Count Karnstein, handling bass and vocals and the songwriting duty I reckon. As the music has been evolving quite stable throughout time, always holding a firm grip within the boundaries of traditional Doom Metal, venturing quite heavily into pure Heavy Metal at times. Diverting into different outskirts of the genre, most likely due to whoever has been impacting the musical output, during the different line-ups. Musically we are still getting an epic slap of grandiose traditional Doom Metal. Heavy riffing is churning away, setting pace and ambience. There is a lot of energy on this output, it is quite straightforward most of the time, which is quite nice, and the energy from the guitar riffing suits the vocals. The production is also powerful and with a lot of space for all the instruments. The guitars are of course taking the lead, most of the way, though the bass does also get its shine. The drums are levelled quite well, and we do not miss a strike – and an overall amazing ambience on the album. I have never been in doubt about CARDINALS FOLLY’s qualities, though it doesn’t seem like they are getting a lot of fuzz around the Metal scene. Perhaps the new label venture and “Let The Posers Fall!” do the trick. Besides the first two first albums “Such Powers Are Dangerous!” and “Our Cult Continues!”, which both are insanely strong, this might be the next in line, when I feel like putting on a CARDINALS FOLLY record. Perhaps not the band’s strongest album, though close and a serious contender to 2026 album of the year list – this is sane and insane all at once, and blends in Psych-Rock, Heavy Metal and Power Metal vibes into the epic traditional Doom Metal base. And who can resist the homage riffing in the beginning of ‘Your Stallions Are Burning’? Climb the midnight mountain: www.facebook.com/cardinalsfolly, www.facebook.com/cruzdelsurmusic
