First of all thanks for taking the time for answering these questions. Please introduce yourself and give us a short account of the DEMONIC RAGE history!
Satran: "Cheers Stefan, thanks for your support from Europe, here Satran. Well, I began in the band in September 2007 when Abhorer was totally alone (due to a few problems with the former line-up). I came to do vocals on the demo "The Anguish’s Doomaelstrom" and then started to work 100% in the band. Today we have taken a few good steps since then."
Abhorer: "Hail! Here is Abhorer, drummer / founder of the Chilean Death Metal band DEMONIC RAGE. Well we established the band in the winter (2000) and up to now we’ve recorded some demos, splits, rehearsals, etc. Actually we’re promoting our “Sulphuric Congregation…” tape. Our current line up is: Satran – vocals, Raul A – guitar, Johan – guitar, Aggressor – bass and me – drums."

The brand-new tracks you’ve already handed over to me sound absolutely stunning! By now your new album “Venomous Wine From Putrid Bodies” should be released and I hope you’re satisfied with your unholy creation. Please tell our readers a bit more about what to expect!
Satran: "The album comes loaded with the heaviest and darkest Death Metal and you can wait for suffocate, swampy, despair atmospheres and hopeless melodies of death and doom. Hell yeah! I am very satisfied with the creation of this recording though if we had had more hours in the studio the result was 10 times better!"
Abhorer: "Our debut album “Venomous Wine from Putrid Bodies” will be out through the Chilean label Proselytism Productions. This contains 8 songs of aggressive and obscure Death Metal far away from hyper blast beat crap, Nu Death, Groove, Melodic, Slamming and other shit! Two songs are new and the other six were taken from our demos, but this time recorded with a sound 1000 times more powerful! Well, I think this piece won’t be the typical self-copied crap with similar songs under different names. Here you can find the fast darkness of old INCANTATION, IMMOLATION, rotten Doom Death like AUTOPSY, DISEMBOWELMENT, old school Death like BENEDICTION, MORGOTH, DEATH, the sickest Black Metal like PROFANATICA, MAYHEM. We’re proud of this album!"

When I compare your new tracks, which to me sound like an unholy bastard of old INCANTATION, IMMOLATION plus the brutality of SINISTER and some typical South American rawness, I get the impression you have developed a lot since the early days where you were still sounding a bit doomier and less violent. What do you think about the artistic development of DEMONIC RAGE? What were your aims with this album?
Satran: "The evolution has been given in the sound more than anything, the composition is kept intact clearly with a few classic touches added around there, these elements were always there but not audible due to a bad sound. Concerning the influences if you pay attention you will be able to hear Black, Doom and obviously Death Metal elements. Originally we were a band with lack of rehearsing, now it is the opposite, every time we improve more as musicians."
Abhorer: "Thanks for your words! In fact, I think the band doesn’t show a notorious evolution, I say we play in the same way, but now we sound better and we manage to play our instruments a lot better. Where our sound is going? Hell, to the same way: Death Metal! Taking Doom elements, Grind, and Black. Our idea is: don’t repeat the same song twice (not self copy), you get me?"

Which bands would you generally name as your main inspiration / influence? What are your current favourite releases? Any tips from the Chilean underground?
Satran: "Obviously INCANTATION, DOMINUS XUL, HYPOCRISY, CIANIDE, PROFANATICA, etc. Nowadays there are a lot of great bands such as FATHER BEFOULED, NECROS CHRISTOS, EMBALMED SOULS. I recommend from here: GODLESS, UNAUSSPRECHLICHEN KULTEN, HADES ARCHER, SLAUGHTBBATH, and from Argentina NEFARIO and BLACK VUL DESTRUKTOR."
Abhorer: "Uff! Too many bands are our inspirations; IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, PROFANATICA, DOMINUS XUL, MORTEM, TOTTEM KORPS, MY DYING BRIDE (old), BOLT THROWER, MYSTIFIER, ASPHYX, IMPRECATION, ATOMIC AGGRESSOR, NAPALM DEATH (89–91) GRAVE (old), NUCLEAR DEATH and all classic bands that we enjoyed in our youth. Actually there are too many good bands like: BLOODY SIGN, GODLESS, GRAVE MIASMA (rules!), NECROS CHRISTOS, FATHER BEFOULED, COPROFAGI, CRUCIAMENTUM, etc. From our land I recommend you zombies such as DIABOLICAL MESSIAH, UNAUSSPRECHLICHEN KULTEN, MAGNANIMUS, EXCORIATE, AFASIA, INFERNUS SERPENT, SLAUGHTBBATH, TEMPLE, COMMUNION, BEHEAD CHRIST, INFERNAL SLAUGHTER, BESTIAL BLASPHEMY and more that I forget here…"

You guys come from Chile – a country well known for its fantastic Death Metal acts yet also a country that always carries a certain exotic charm for us over here in Europe. Can you tell me more about how the Chilean underground Metal scene works and operates? Is there a strong Metal infrastructure with record shops, labels, magazines and venues or is a lot of that happening deep in the underground? What does a Metalhead do in Chile on the weekend?
Satran: "The Chilean underground is very active nowadays since there always were people who kept this alive, there are labels who are doing a very good job today, also very good magazines, in general operating in very serious and professional ways! In general especially in my city (in the cold south of Chile) the Metalhead is dedicated to drink lethal doses of alcohol and listen to loads of Metal of Death!"
Abhorer: "The Underground here works well, too many bands, zines, labels, live shows, etc… but sadly like envy, rivalry, mediocrity, etc, like we see, all people here are looking at what you are doing. This happens in that crap “forum” of the internet, whores and maggots with pseudo names feel free to criticize the work of bands, zines, bangers spreading lies and gay rumors, fucking the prestige and work of others like “inquisitors” in the underground scene. They don’t show their face, fucking cowards! On the other hand, good shows, great bands and zines supporting the small new bands. Great! Well, like any place “fashions” as well is affecting us, like “old school Thrash” BEHERIT / BLASPHEMY clones, etc. but this crap fortunately dies soon, hahaha! The life of a Metalhead? Typical shit, run for good stuff going to some shows, drinking a lot, nothing all too special."

Do you think that being born and raised in Chile has any affect on the way you guys sound? Though Chile’s economy and level of democratic structures has been growing over the last years, with the massive earthquake in 2010 and poverty issues, I’m sure that it’s still not so easy to be an extreme Metal band in that country or am I wrong?
Satran: "I believe that being an extreme Metal band isn’t easy anywhere, perhaps the economy of our country increases this, since it is difficult for us to keep a job and shit like that. The environment that surrounds us is mournful, cold and fucking dark and yes I believe that influences us in the sound and in the way that we see reality."
Abhorer: "No! Of course it is very difficult to make extreme Metal in Chile (if you aren’t a “rich child” of course!), but we’re not living in prehistoric times or something like that. We worked very hard through these years to reach our goals (and goats, hahaha) but we don’t sell our “South American” image, playing like shit or having a bad sound, speaking about how poor we are, try to sound primitive (in artificial form) to seem a “cult band” like many shit acts of my country! Try to copy the old sound of VULCANO, SARCOFAGO or SEPULTURA, fuck off stupid copycats!!!"

When I stumbled across DEMONIC RAGE for the first time recently in the great Nuclear War Now forum I went out to find out more about you guys online, but you do not even have a website or myspace page. So, is this absence from the internet something you do intentionally? I can understand when people hate to be active online yet it is a necessary evil of getting awareness, don’t you think?
Satran: "Certainly, but I find it absurd to promote ourselves through the internet since we have our own channels of distribution and promotion such as regular mail, thousands of zines and flyers, probably we are “old fashioned”, I don’t know."
Abhorer: "Umhh! In fact I don’t care about the internet, I use this way for communication, promotion, trades, to see porno stuff, video clips, etc. but I’m not interested in myspace or a website of DEMONIC RAGE since I think this way is only useful for experienced and big bands to keep their fans informed about tours, new releases, new videos, etc. I don’t care if a band uses this way to promote their stuff, but there are too many bands who turn this into an easy way of getting over – exposition, running for fast fame. We can see bands without a fucking demo recorded acting like sluts on youtube, it’s ridiculous!!!"

What future goals do you have for DEMONIC RAGE? I read you’re going to do a split with FATHER BEFOULED? How did that come into being? Are you having plans for tours?
Satran: "Continuing to create new brutal songs, play some gigs, and keep doing more records, that is our goals. The split with FATHER BEFOULED was an agreement between Goat and Abhorer! Now, we are in the process of recording an EP which contains two new songs plus a cover of PROFANATICA, no fucking tour national, neither international."
Abhorer: "Futures goals? The release of our “Venomous…” debut album, the split CD of DEMONIC RAGE / ANTICRISTO and our split 7” EP with FATHER BEFOULED through Dark Descent Records. The latter was a rotten surprise. One “happy day” I received an email from Justin (FATHER BEFOULED) speaking about their love for DEMONIC RAGE and expressing interest to make a split with us, of course we accepted immediately and when I knew the artwork will be drawn by the master Paul Ledney, I felt honored!!!"

You have recorded / mixed at DM6 studio in Santiago De Chile as far as I know, a many bands are cooperating with that studio like HADES ARCHER, COMMUNION, MAGNANIMUS etc. – is it the best place to record such infernal Metal from hell or where does this cooperation originate from?
Satran: "Yeah!!! DM6 is the best studio in Chile to record extreme Metal music, Paulo Clares has a great résumé in the national Metal scene and he knows to transmute the idea with which you come into the final recording, he is a great comrade and musician. The contact with him was arranged through Proselytism Records. Everything was in a very professional way."
Abhorer: "Fuck yeahh!!! DM6 studio is one of the best places to record extreme Metal in this fucking land! Was a real honour to work with Mr. Clares “Hateaxes” (MAGNANIMUS, ATOMIC AGGRESSOR, ex – TOTTEN KORPS and more). He’s a cool guy and very professional. Contact and money came through Deathmessiah (owner of Proselytism) in this way, all ok!!!"

Lyrically, it is obvious that you have tons of contempt for any forms of religion and a song title like ‘Sulphuric Congregation Towards The Holocaust Of All Sacred And Holy’ is an obvious nod to old INCANTATION and infernal blasphemers like BLASPHEMY – what fuels your hatred and inspires your lyrical atrocities against God?
Satran: "Our hatred towards spiritual and mental doctrines will always be of apocalyptic magnitude, the Judeo-Christian church is the worst thing that has flogged humanity and the fact to see EVERY DAY lies, corruption and paedophilia from parts of the church always was feeding my flame of eternal hatred towards this disgusting form of life and belief, naturally I am a devoted to the forgotten occult arts!"
Abhorer: "It’s our inspiration: hate against all religions and their stupid followers! I shit on the bible (and their fairy tales) and the faggot Christ!!!"

A lot of Death Metal bands do not actually sing much about death, darkness and blasphemy, but rather focus on exploiting gory details of violent rape fantasies and simply head for a misogynistic direction – it seems you have a different understanding of what Death Metal should be about, is that correct?
Satran: "In fact these are topics that can decorate an idea but taking it as a principal factor in your music, no fucking way!!! Our formula is simple – waking up in the morning and see everything around you, this infamy that surrounds us and see what the world is becoming provides more than enough material to create songs then. I expand that by my visions of mysticism and occultism and so give life to these lyrics. That is Death Metal for me! The supreme extreme evil dark expression of despise!"
Abhorer: "Yes, there is a lot of bands singing different stuff, some are good, others not, in fact I don’t care about other bands and their lyrics. We all are different in our life visions. If you like eating guts, raping children, glorify war, worship goats, then go and do it! Death Metal = Death, Satan, violence, occultism, blood, suffering, darkness, fear, desolation, despair, cruelty and so on!!!" Alright, guys, that’s it for now – I think the new songs I’ve heard so far are among the best Death Metal I’ve listened to in 2010 and I hope with this interview some other people will get aware of DEMONIC RAGE – thanks for taking the time to answer this!
