“Demonolatry”, is the debut album from this Norwegian band, that plays a very honest and intense MORBID ANGEL influenced Metal of Death, and of corpse obviously influenced only by the early works of the Floridian legends. There is also some intense riffing, very reminiscent of Swedish MERCILESS and looking at the band members, that were or are in other bands, ranging from Doom Metal to evil Thrash Metal, it is no surprise that some sounds are to be found here, although they usually keep it very fast. The production on this one has a bit of an old school feeling, being that it is not too polished, nor do the drums sound plastic, something that I totally appreciate in these too much refined sounds of today. The cover art might seem a bit cartoony in its looks, but don’t get confused, it’s a total homage to the cover arts of the ’90s where black and white was the color of death. On songs like ‘Ai Aepec’ I was transported to an age of abominations of desolations so strong, that I had to check the cover art to make sure it was not Trey and company playing, which in my book, and with that sound, is always very good or very evil, whichever it adapts. It is remarkable the way some solos are done, making Azagthoth proud. And the vocals are hateful and direct, a bit of Brett Hoffman (RIP) sound in there. And, this is the kind of release that every time you listen to it, new things appear, like an act of black magic. The utter intensity also remind of lost legends FACE OF EVIL. If someone told me this was recorded back in the ’90s I should have no reason to doubt it. But again, evil works in mysterious ways. I was looking for some headphones to listen to this closely, and their demo tape falls on my foot, reminding me how great that one is too. This is not only mandatory for those that have IMMOLATION, SADISTIC INTENT or SHUB NIGGURATH demos their collection… any respected Metalhead needs to get this. My dark gifts of clairvoyance for music tells me that any new offering from this killer band must be in my watch list. An album dedicated to all Speed, Death and Black Metal fans everywhere! www.facebook.com/abhorration666, www.facebook.com/invictusproductions
