ABOLISH
...From The Depths

ABOLISH is a five-piece brutal Death Metal act from Turkey that has nothing to do with the long defunct Black Metal act from Brazil or the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania based Thrashers, which used to release one album and a couple of demos throughout the ’90s. It seems that this band doesn’t exist for long yet, but three of the members are already active in other Turkish acts for a while: guitarist Burak Tavus in THRASHFIRE, vocalist Lucy Ferra in INHUMAN DEPRAVITY and drummer Serdar Karahasanoğlu in TRENCHWAR. So, this is not a bunch of fresh starters, but already quite experienced musicians. “…From The Depths” is the band’s debut full length album, with no prior demo or EP release, but it definitely sounds nothing like that. What we get here is dark and sinister crushing Death Metal, musically somewhere between old INCANTATION and classic BOLT THROWER, with a couple of Black Metal overtones thrown in for good measure. The seven featured songs (each one exceeds the five minutes mark) are all very well written, they are extremely heavy and musically on a quite high level already. But the most surprising aspect of the band is without a doubt their vocalist Lucy Ferra, who’s got such a dark and brutal voice, that you won’t notice for a second that she’s a female. This is neither Sabina Classen like, nor in the vein of Alissa White-Gluz. Her voice is pretty much in the same league as Death Metal heavyweights Craig Pillard or Ross Dolan and it fits the music just perfectly. The production of “…From The Depths” is also worth a mention here, since it sounds extremely punching and heavy, but you can still clearly hear every instrument well balanced in the mix. Well, it’s actually no real surprise if you find out that the entire album was recorded, mixed and mastered at Deadhouse Studio (BURIAL INVOCATION, DIABOLIZER, ENGULFED etc.), which is owned by former BURIAL INVOCATION bass player Ozan Yıldırım, who not only produced the album, but who’s also responsible for the cover artwork. So, if ABOLISH are also able to pull these songs off live in the same way, we have another very hopeful act from Turkey to keep an eye on from now on. Highly recommended!
