Absolutely fascinating what the Polish band ABOVE AURORA packs into just over half an hour of music. And at the same time it still sounds completely harmonious and homogeneous, so that a small masterpiece has been created. This album is already the third full-length, and the band has also released an EP and even a live album since their foundation back in 2015. The rough direction on “Myriad Woes” is Black Metal, but there are many elements that break genre boundaries. First of all, there are the spoken word parts that appear again and again, which give the whole matter depth and ensure a build-up of tension similar to a radio play or movie. But do not worry, it is not just about the atmosphere and emotions like despair and melancholy, the interplay between the different elements creates a distinct dynamic, also due to the relatively short playing time for five songs. The guitar work is pretty versatile, from tremolo picking up to more slow tones. Especially the contrast between brutal and more fine, almost delicate tones sounds incredibly exciting. Of course “Myriad Woes” is far away from easy listening, but real art is always demanding.
