AEGRUS is a three piece Finnish Black Metal act that has been spreading chaos and black plague since 2005 with their 3 outings so far, off which their latest 4-track EP, titled "Luciferian Engravings", obviously pushes the nails even deeper into the cross where Jesus wept and died. Musically AEGRUS blends a grim and fast sounding Black Metal together with more melodic elements that sort of underlines the band’s Scandinavian roots. Somehow it sounds all too familiar, giving listeners more than just a couple of deja vus from the blasts from the past but then again, it does just enough to win your attention anyway, which is always a good thing. The songs are pretty much carefully crafted on "Luciferian Engravings", obviously eliminating most of those suspicious thoughts that might point a finger towards them for a somehow rushed, or just simply a plain sloppy effort. All the 4 songs are between 5 to 7 minutes in length, containing a fair enough amount of those more positive side of things that allows you to dig a bit deeper through the songs on the EP. There’s surely enough potential in AEGRUS even if their darkness and evil ain’t any darker or more evil in any specific way than so many other bands of the same ink. Having said that, they still may be worth checking out for most of you, I honestly believe. www.myspace.com/aegrusband
