Spiritual Archives (Occult Rites I+II)

When you see the words Folk / Doom Metal in the same sentence, you immediately think of several elements in one. Moreover if the name of the band is AIVVASS. This name immediately takes you to the Thelemic vision of Aleister Crowley and instantly points out to the philosophy and orientation of the band towards the occult practice. So, AIVVASS should be (by definition) a band deeply established in the occult with a newer sound perhaps. Musically, AIVVASS may sound like a mix of relaxation and heaviness, combining Folk, Doom and even Death Metal rudiments, delivering a product that may result highly interesting for those who appreciate these type of amalgam. AIVVASS released two EPs in digital format last year, “Occult Rites I” and “Occult Rites II”. Darkness Shall Rise Productions has added those EPs to their roster on this compilation called “Spiritual Archives (Occult Rites I+II)” on cassette and CD. Also “Occult Rites I” and “Occult Rites II” are now in pre-order on two separate MLPs. What I liked the most about this band is the simplicity of their music while traversing through different atmospheres and sensations. They may be dark and relaxing, experimental and traditional, acoustic and Luciferian, conferring them the ability to extend their message to a wide range of enthusiasts. You may give a try to songs like ‘Satan’ , ‘Lucifer’ or even ‘Cremation Of Care’ with those clean vocals. The compilation closes with ‘The Ghoul’, a delightful PENTAGRAM cover that unequivocally shows the influences of the band. “Spiritual Archives (Occult Rites I+II)” gathers the eight tracks of the two EPs in almost 50 minutes total and creates the perfect scenario to get involved in their magic. A recommendable piece for those who want to listen to something with a peculiar vibe. Check them out!
