Slovenia is pretty much unfamiliar territory Metal wise for me. Over the course of my tenure in the Metal scene, I must have stumbled across one or two Grindcore bands from there, and that’s about it. This ARMAROTH EP comes as a complete surprise and most likely after the first few minutes I was convinced that this was going to be a pleasant listen. ARMAROTH present on this EP intro plus 4 songs of unrelenting, heavy and ballistic Death Metal, in the old SUFFOCATION (US), GORGUTS (CAN) and CANNIBAL CORPSE (US) tradition. Perhaps, a formula already tried by many but nowhere near the class and proficiency that these guys display on this short recording. Production-wise they have achieved a perfect balance between absurd amounts of heaviness and clarity, a clear example to demonstrate that modern recording technologies do not necessarily ruin underground music IF you have someone smart behind the knobs. Some songs got stuck in my head for days due to their catchy brutality and finesse, ‘Modern Man’ for instance, makes great use of keyboards interventions to describe the miserable future of our race. ‘Labyrinth Of Greed’ will hammer down your skull with constant rhythm twists and insatiable aggression from beginning to end. Particularly, the guitar work is remarkable, with the right amount of technicalities to make their compositions menacing instead of pretentious bullshit. Grab a copy of this EP, if you are into technical Death Metal intelligently arranged and performed. No more no less! Oh by the way, get someone to draw a better logo for your band and you will be just fine! www.facebook.com/armaroth.band, www.reverbnation.com/armaroth
