A Clarion Call

Doom unto you all. From the depths of San Francisco (!) comes ASUNDER. Three songs (‘Twilight Amaranthine’, ‘Crown Of Eyes’, and ‘A Clarion Call’) of brilliant, infernally heavy Doom / Death Metal with superlative arrangements and a vocalist clearly suffering from MPD… which in this case is good, very good. At times ASUNDER is a bit reminiscent of Finland’s RAPTURE on their stunning debut “Futile,” but maintain a less studio-polished and more obscure production style, better suited to this sort of underground Death / Doom. The three songs, ‘Twilight Amaranthine’, ‘Crown Of Eyes’ and ‘A Clarion Call’ are filled with haunting melodies, and thick, brooding harmonies best experienced only at night. True to N.W.N. form, the packaging is waaay OTT; especially with the “Die Hard” version: First there is the four-panel fold out double-sided full color sleeve with lyrics, credits, and pocket for the two LPs. The marble colored vinyl features a song to each side – the fourth side being an engraved mysterious diabolic face. Included also is centerfold size poster, and fully embroidered ASUNDER logo patch. Finally there is a full color paper envelope for the sleeve itself. Packaging aside, ASUNDER is my pick for the best N.W.N. original release to date. My mates in Oz’s MOURNFUL CONGREGATION finally have some real competition – which is good because I can’t get enough of this sort of Doom. Contact: Nuclearwarnow_prod@yahoo.com.
