Indoctrination Into The Cult Of Death

Although I was a little shocked at first by the short playing time of the US old school Death Metal band’s second album, it proved to be one of the best half-an-hour’s I have heard for some time now. Do bands like old GRAVE, CREMATORY, DEMIGOD, old IMMOLATION mean something to you? You think PAGANIZER or BLOODBATH do not sound “ancient” enough? Well, then buy this album!!! It is as funereal, morbid and filled to the brim with the spirit of the early 90s Death Metal as can be. The production is very bassy, I can hear a dose of Sunlight Studio ’91, decomposed growls, fierce blasting brutality, heavy mid-tempo as well as haunting “typical Swedish” melodies invoking this unique atmosphere everyone into old Death Metal loves so much. The album’s title might appear a little far-fetched at first but once you’ve listened to it you will agree it is the perfect description for this masterpiece. It is a pity that this kind of Death Metal so often ends up barely noticed, what is sold today under the label of “old school Death Metal” is mostly nothing but a joke and since AVULSION have disbanded some time ago (this album was already recorded in 2002) there is only another addition to the numerous fantastic bands giving up the struggle for indoctrinating the mass with the ancient essence of Death Metal. Hopefully this review will help in spreading word about AVULSION among the dedicated worshippers of honest old school Death Metal and despite a rather unspectacular layout help selling this 30 minutes of pure sinister delight! As a bonus to the sparse layout (which consists mostly of pics from “City Of The Living Dead”) the CD offers a computer part with four bonus MP3’s from 1999, a video of ‘Desecrated Ground’ and a photo gallery. www.deathgasm.com
