There are albums that feel like a long prophecy to be fulfilled. And “Black Sword Thunder Attack” is precisely that kind of album. Released by No Remorse Records on CD and 12″ vinyl, this epic piece is a heavy stone hitting your heart deeply. A cascade of hymns descending to your head like a hammer. Pure magic. Pure darkness. The braveness of the warrior. This is what this album brings inside. So, be ready. If you’ve been following BLACK SWORD THUNDER ATTACK over the years, you already know that they are not in a rush. They’ve moved slowly, deliberately and always on their own terms. And now, after five years in the shadows, since the release of their first EP, “March Of The Damned” in 2020 and their previous demos, back in 2015, 2011 and 2002 (first demo), they step forward with this debut full-length, and it’s exactly what it was supposed to be: majestic, mysterious and completely devoted to the ancient spirit of Epic Heavy Metal. Coming from Greece, a land with no shortage of myth and mountains, BLACK SWORD THUNDER ATTACK is back to tell us a story. But not just another simple story, they want to tell us a story that has been passed from voice to voice, from warrior to warrior, from battle to battle, from century to century. A story that will remain in the memory of all the upcoming swords in victory. And I would say that a huge part of what makes this album (and this band) feel like they do is the vocals. Mareike doesn’t sing like any traditional Heavy Metal vocalists. She’s not here to scream or wail. Her voice feels almost ceremonial, like someone chanting a forgotten rite. It’s calm but commanding, distant but direct. Do not expect the same here! She’s simply trying to give you a message. And you’re supposed to understand it. Walking the path to the attack. Mareike’s voice is simply unique. That ‘s it! For me, “Black Sword Thunder Attack” stands tall among the giants of this genre, with honor and a flag that rises way too high on the battlefield. BLACK SWORD THUNDER ATTACK is a band that sounds brave, strong, melodic, theatrical and obscure as fuck. It’s a perfect combination of the four elements: earth, water, fire and air while covering epic battles, mythical journeys into darkness, mortality and loneliness. Ultimately, BLACK SWORD THUNDER ATTACK reveals themes of defiance, hope and sacrifice. Step inside, raise the sword, and listen closely. This one here was worth the wait. You know what? I have to be honest: I tried to list my favorite tracks on the album and I started typing the names and a short description, but I had to go back and erase everything I had. It’s absolutely impossible (for me at least) to mention just a few. It would be totally unfair. I’ll make it simple: I’ll recommend the complete album. From start to finish. Period! And yes, I’m lazy. I am. But not here while writing this review! This is – THE BEST – album I’ve listened to so far from 2025. And I’m done!
