Formerly known as DEVASTATOR, this 3-piece Thrash Metal act from northern California, has finally got their debut album released on German Cyclone Empire, including 12 songs. These fellows perform Thrash Metal of the meanest and rawest kind, in which the early days of German Thrash metal pioneers KREATOR meets the Bay Area influence somewhat indelibly, yet so irresistibly. BLESSED CURSE know how to fuckin’ Thrash – and there’s nothing in there within their stuff that would turn you off from them, unless you get some serious pimples from listening to old school Thrash Metal. The guys’ Thrash Metal flows pretty darn nicely indeed; it’s heavily riff-based – and Tyler’s croaky, aggressive vocalism reminds of the similar vocal style that Mille represents for his own band KREATOR. For the band’s debut, this is definitely a good record although not that impressive after all, I would say. Besides, there’s over 67 minutes of stuff included into this opus, which is probably a bit too much. 35-40 minutes would have definitely been a more ideal length for the band’s debut record. Now it feels a bit like listeners also get some "extras’ extras" even if they don’t even ask for them. Oh well, perhaps I’m complaining just in vain; BLESSED CURSE’s debut record does kick enough arse nonetheless to make people to check it out.
