BROTHER T
Convergence
(self-financed)
16:54min

I was surprised to find out that BROTHER T was a project from one of our fellow Voices writers. A self-financed effort, “Convergence” is a short 3 song mixed stew of downtrodden worshipping tracks from different bands / different genres. Each song consists of parts of music from 3 different bands. Let’s dive in and see what journey this release lays out. The first track is a mix of ASPHYX / DAVID BOWIE (yes, you heard right, DAVID BOWIE) / MASSIVE ATTACK. The guitar riff is taken from ASPHYX’s ‘The Rack’, additional music from MASSIVE ATTACK, and the lyrics of DAVID BOWIE. It’s a unique blend of dark ambience meets depressive emotion. This song really puts forth what you can expect from the other two tracks. Track 2 is a tribute to DARKTHRONE / DEAD CAN DANCE / NEUROSIS. I’m a big fan of both DARKTHRONE and DEAD CAN DANCE (you really can’t go wrong with either of these 2 bands but blended together like they are here is just the icing on the cake), but not really a fan of NEUROSIS. It has the right elements from each band, but I think the lyrics from NEUROSIS fit nicely into the mix. Homage was paid in the form of the guitar riff from ‘Transylvanian Hunger’ and ‘En Vind Av Sorg’. Lastly the final track which also is by far my favorite of the three songs. In my opinion this song has all the elements that really bring out the concept of this project. You get MAYHEM / MY DYING BRIDE / ALICE IN CHAINS all thrown into a blender and producing a protein shake of pure depravity and darkness. Gloom and doom with a hint of neglection. A worthy song to put on any compilation of depressive angst. Overall, this is an interesting release that does a nice job of mixing bands from different genres / backgrounds and gives birth to an eclectic audio ambiance that is sure to pique the interest of listeners. The more I listened to the songs over and over the more I started to get into their sound. To BROTHER T, I have to tip my hat as he did a great job in not only combining the efforts of 9 different bands but also makes the music have a good even flow so that it stays consistent yet does expand horizons. If you are strictly into Metal then this might not be your cup of tea, however, if you are into different genres then I encourage you to give this album a tryout.
