So yeah, CARBONIZED CHURCH… I wonder what type of music could this be. A quick once-over of the logo, song titles, album art, the requisite band photo with collective grimaces, and various displays of alcohol. I think it’s safe to say we are not looking at the 2023 version of N’SYNC here. Basically what we have here is music from deep within the bowels of Chile, South America. They bring forth their own version of War Metal, much in the vein of BESTIAL WARMASTER, ARCHGOAT and if you really got your finger on the pulse of all that is Metal and warlike, they have a similar vibe to CRURIFRAGIUM outta Seattle. So if you are familiar with the aforementioned bands, it is much the same framework – no breaking of boundaries on this release. From the onset, a deep bellowing growl from the title track sets the standard of what’s to come, and in doing so, the sound which is basic and singular in its approach, with the drums doing a standard beat and keeping up with the onslaught that is the guitars. At times vocalist Alejandro sounds a bit like Chris Barnes and that gets me to think of the songs sound like a more bestial CANNIBAL CORPSE “Butchered At Birth” era. Track 5, ‘Evil Revenge’, is also giving me some DISMEMBER vibes as well. The release is just under 30 minutes, so this is definitely a shock-and-awe approach by the band. Getting further into the nitty gritty, this seems to be a compilation of sorts with current new material and their 2017 demo “Proclaiming The Glory Of Satan”. On the first demo, you can obviously hear the sound quality difference and also a much more primitive approach to the songs themselves, them sounding closer to early BEHERIT and in style. So having said that, I have to voice a pet peeve of mine and that is overly long and annoying intros to songs. Especially if it’s a bunch of screaming and various high-pitched extrapolations of torture and such. You have the volume on 10 blasting the music and then you get that part bursting forth in speakers… and for 30+ seconds, it is kind of annoying. But that’s just me. So a great bit of audio adrenaline, straight to the point, and not bad for its short time frame makes for a quick listen. Great if you know what you like and need to scratch that War Metal itch. I realized at the end of this that the band seems to have no contact information but email them at carbonizedchurch@gmail.com or try www.facebook.com/repugnantmetalrecords
