Wow, such a discovery! I have to admit that before accepting this review, I had never heard anything from CARNAL TOMB and they completely blew my mind away! “Embalmed In Decay” is the third full length of the band and comes after two recent EPs (“Descend” in 2020 and “Festering Presence” in 2021), although the last LP – “Abhorrent Veneration” – was released in 2019. Since I really enjoyed “Embalmed In Decay”, I went through all of CARNAL TOMB’s discography and since the first listening I have noticed a rise in every work they put out and “Embalmed In Decay” is the definitive proof. The German quartet is devoted to old school Death Metal at its finest: mad growling, pounding riffs and a pressing rhythm section. The riffing is very solid and the bass and drum parts are excellent. I’m sure all of you will shout out a great round of applause to the bassist as all tracks are backed with a predominant and technically brilliant bass. The growling is always at the right place and goes in a very fluid manner as there are some peaks that give more impact to the musical aspect – reminds me of DYING FETUS in the way that growl and music combine themselves. Since its predecessor, “Embalmed In Decay” is characterized by shorter length of the tracks (not less than 3:40 minutes by the way) and this gives a higher impact to every single track. Some well placed solos that give an already high energy and some thrashy bridging parts are the plus ingredients to this great album. As I already said, I would define this as old school Death Metal but with some personal triggers that fit very well – don’t get me wrong, this is still what we love (and what obviously CARNAL TOMBS’s loves) but they simply added their personal touch. They are easily at stake to enter my personal 2023 top 10 – I can’t stop listening to this album and the only day I wasn’t able to do it was so sad. You definitely have to give this one a listen and if you will like it as much as I do – and I’m pretty sure you will – you have to go check them here www.facebook.com/carnaltombdeathmetal and grab some cool stuff here www.facebook.com/testimonyrecords.
