The Horror Cult

What the fuck is currently going on in Spain? That country rarely caught my attention in terms of high quality brutal Death Metal in the past (except for AVULSED maybe), but lately there’s a lot of great material being released overthere. And CAUSTIC’s “The Horror Cult” album is without a question another goody worth being purchased by the worldwide Death Metal community! The band has already been around since 1992 but due to several line-up problems only managed to release one demo in 1995 (“The Sensations Of The End”) and a CD in 1999 (“Rebirth Of Procreation”) over the years. I haven’t got the chance to hear both of ’em yet, but their newest full length simply sounds fantastic and easily lives up to international standards! Unlike many likeminded bands (especially from Poland) who have focused on the typical MORBID ANGEL writing formular CAUSTIC have musically found a nicely balanced mixture of various Death Metal classics. That means you’re about to hear obvious influences from vintage MORBID ANGEL (songstructuring / arrangements), “Dawn Of Possession” – era IMMOLATION (vocal delivery, songwriting) or “Leprosy” era DEATH (straight ahead brutality). The members involved in CAUSTIC sound very skilled to me and the overall impression of the album is nothing but professional, which is also pretty good reflected in the solid production. It’s simply an enjoyable album to listen to, by no means intented to be innovative, but to keep the spirit of the early masters of Death alive! Great one! The website is still under construction, but you may check it out in the near future at this location: www.causticcult.com
