Prize question: who has been responsible for the most remasterings in Heavy Metal and its sub-genres in recent years? No question, Patrick W. Engel and his Temple Of Disharmony studio have stood for high-quality restoration and over-working of old albums for years. So it is not surprising that you do not notice the age of “Trójska Vojna”, thanks to the excellent work of Patrick W. Engel. By the way, a reunion of his old band IMPENDING DOOM, known at the end of the 1990s for an unholy mixture of Black and Death Metal, would be nice. But back to CERBERUS and “Trójska Vojna”. This album was supposed to be released more than 30 years ago, namely in 1991. However, the record company dropped the band, so only an unknown number of vinyl records were sold. As far as I know this was the only release of the band from Slovakia, plus the track ‘Roxana’, which was released on a compilation and is also featured on this re-release. It is quite difficult to describe CERBERUS musically, because the band sits between several chairs. With its clean singing, chanting and spoken words passages we have a huge drift towards Epic Metal bands like CIRITH UNGOL. However, the eponymous hellhound Cerebus, in Greek mythology a mostly multi-headed dog that guards the entrance to the underworld so that no living person enters and no dead person comes out, is repeatedly let off the leash. The band then offers both Power and classic Thrash Metal which, although thirty years old, corresponds to today’s quality level. Of course, the obligatory synthesizer interlude is also there. What I like about the album is the dark and obscure atmosphere, which is always lightened up by Power Metal, an exciting interplay. Sadly there are no further information about the band and the involved musicians. Rumor has it that CERBERUS was founded 1985 and during following years played live, mostly in Slovakia and Hungary. Anyone looking for original music off the beaten track should give this a listen.
