“The Greater Evil” is the fourth album by the band from Basel, Switzerland. COLD CELL was founded in 2012 and hopefully this album will be their breakthrough. The label Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions is an established label and nearly all releases are quality ones and I would go almost as far as to say that you can buy it blindly if you are interested in high quality Black Metal outputs. Like their label mates, COLD CELL are focusing more on creating a sonic vision instead of of treading well-known paths. The opener ‘Scapegoat Season’ starts with some kind of female chanting, that scares the hell out of me due to its frightening atmosphere. Musically it is pretty difficult to pinpoint COLD CELL, because there are different styles intermingled. More traditional second wave Black Metal, versatile vocals from clean to high-pitched shrieks, many changes of tempo, a huge synthesizer influence and guitar riffs far away from being Metal. Whatever you may call it, atmospheric Black Metal, Funeral / Suicide / Doom, Post Black Metal, Post everything or simply Avantgarde Black Metal – all these descriptions are at the same time fitting. If you ever listened to bands like HARAKIRI FOR HE SKY, DARK FORTRESS or SONS OF A WANTED MAN you might know what I am writing about. Since it is always a problem to describe music with words, the best advise is to make up your own mind by visiting www.facebook.com/coldcellofficial or www.facebook.com/ladloproductions
