With CONFESSOR A.D. we have another new band from the blooming scene in France. And they add another tone to the rich variety of styles in France, since the sound of this three piece from Strasbourg is pretty much rooted in classic Metal. Of course they don’t play pure Heavy Metal, but mix it with elements of Black / Thrash and even some Doom Metal, thus creating music that is pretty refreshing these days. If you listen to their first sign of life, an EP called “Too Late To Pray”, you’ll hear five very variable songs that really make me scream for more. The fast and furious opener ‘Deafening Confession’ is full of guitar harmonies, yet black and thrashing enough to be one of the songs I always wanted to hear from bands like WITCHERY. But with ‘Haunting Enemies’, the speed slows down a lot, not only due to the opening part in Doom style. This one reminds me a little bit of their (nearly) name twins without the “A.D.”. Somehow, this is my personal fave on the EP. But the up-tempo thrasher ‘Hipster Killer’ (what a title!), the again more laid back ‘Silent War’ and the also furious and melodic closing tune ‘Endless Night’ prove that CONFESSOR A.D. have some more fine tunes to offer. And if you take into concern that “Too Late To Pray” is the first release ever of this French outfit, I am really looking forward to hear a full album of them.
