The Parasitic Chambers
(Memento Mori)

Atmospheric progressive technical Death Metal is both a mouthful and an earful. However, San Diego based CONJURETH summon the best of all the mentioned aspects to craft “The Parasitic Chambers”. There is actually quite a lot that’s happening on this album and it is easy to lose track of the incredible musicianship. Purified in the ancient halls of the old school, CONJURETH conjure the spirits of late ’80s, early ’90s sound and give it a twist. I quite enjoyed this album on the whole, I do have one complaint though, the vocals and drums are quite high in the mix often eclipsing the incredible rhythm guitars. I glanced to see who the members were and they have an incredible resume to say the least, we’ve got personnel from ENCOFFINATION, TUMULATION, VOIDCEREMONY (past) and GHOULGOTHA (past). The album opens with ‘Smothering Psalms’ which immediately meanders across multiple genre boundaries, heavy as a rain cloud and progressive as an easy clutch shift on a brand new car. The band manage to create an aura of heaviness which they cut through with slick riffs and relentless drumming. The guitar solos throughout this album are your typical “Leprosy” / “Scream Bloody Gore” type of solos which I really enjoy. As much as I like “Altars of Madness” not everyone can write them or execute them. Sometimes, keeping it simple is the best way and CONJURETH keeps it simple, interesting and heavy. Track # 2 ‘Dimensional Ascendancy’ is perhaps the best representation of the band’s sound in entirety. This touches upon the Death / Thrash territory with a gentle touch of atmosphere that is perhaps the best space in my book. On the whole, CONJURETH have put out a worthy slab of Death Metal out in 2023 and I’m quite excited to see them live sometime soon. Also, I’ve added this album to my personal “Albums to play during a Zombie apocalypse” list.
