I like my Death Metal and I like when a new band I just have stumbled across, opens with blasting darkness and brutality that takes me back to the first MORBID ANGEL influenced ANGEL CORPSE album, that together with the blackened Thrash Metal elements, that flow all over this Polish band’s second full length album “Empire Of The Worm” makes me a tad happy! Grinding and thundering chainsaw riffing, blasting beats and punishing basslines, on top of that an aggressive and insisting growl, this is a brutality packed album, from the start to the end, CONQUEST ICON shows no mercy. This effort is perhaps not the most original new release I’ve laid my ears upon this year, though I like the immense brutality, the threads back to some brutal American Death Metal packs and the tad grinding Scandinavian Black Metal influence. “Empire Of The Worm” is intensity filled hatred and disgust, and who don’t like that?
