CORAM LETHE
The Gates Of Oblivion
(Crash Music)
54:26min

Melodic and heavy technical Death / Thrash Metal from Italy, well performed, well produced, featuring the typical Swedish guitar melodies, many elements of late DEATH, a mixture of screamed and growled vocals, as well as some more individual elements like the brutal opening of ‘Dying Water Walk With Us’, modern touches like distorted spoken passages and some excursions into progressive realms. Honestly spoken, nothing that appeals to me that much, especially because of the mid-tempo-dominance, but nonetheless “The Gates Of Oblivion” provides solidly executed and varied material for people who can imagine DARK TRANQUILLITY melted with DEATH, CYNIC. Of course these forerunners have more class and impact than CORAM LETHE, but some interesting potential for people into this kind of extreme Metal might be discovered already on the second album by this 1999 founded band (e.g. the outstanding track ‘I, Oblivion’ with some great drum patterns, jazzy bass playing and nicely performed clean vocals at the song’s beginning). Not bad! www.coramlethe.com, www.crashmusicinc.com
