Earache’s name can sometimes be taken very literally. In the case of CROWPATH a thirty-minutes “declaration of war on traditional harmonies and songstructures” (that’s what the info sheet says) is unleashed upon my ears. The band’s approach of avoiding traditional standards ends in a kind of half an hour jam session of chaotic Noise- or “Mathcore” (another quote from the info sheet), divided into thirteen tracks. Without a doubt, CROWPATH are skillful musicians, but obviously writing songs you can follow is not their aim. I have respect that the musicians can remember what to play, but as a listener I find it almost impossible to distinguish one song from the other. This piece of wrathful chaos can only be recommended for fans of pure noise, people who like a minimal dose of melody and structure can avoid it. www.crowpath.com
