To fashion one’s band as a tribute to an older, influential band, either sparks derision for the choice of band to pay tribute to, or applause. HELLHAMMER has had every kind of homage payed to them, and despite more than twenty years of bowing and scraping, we’re still not done thanking them, it seems. But while one might grow tired of hearing, say, imitation-EMPEROR bands, it’s never easy to refuse to devote at least a little time to a band that plays HELLHAMMER music. CRUCIFIXIONHAMMER is the latest and greatest HELLHAMMER band. It’s considerably harder to rate them, because they are not a cover band. Their songs are all original, just composed in the vein of HELLHAMMER. Therefore, don’t expect a perfect imitation of HELLHAMMER, but you should most definitely sense, when listening to this magnificent tape, the attention to detail and rawness of each track. It’s not so much that CRUCIFIXONHAMMER merely sounds like HELLHAMMER, but that they’ve learned how to write the same sort of songs as HELLHAMMER, giving them an advantage over other such bands who think that the sound alone guarantees success.
