1992 was a good year for Death Metal, e.g. OBITUARY, INCANTATION, CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE, NOCTURNUS, BOLT THROWER and quite some more bands released albums that became classics. It was in that year when CRUSHER from France released their debut “Corporal Punishment”. After an EP in 1993 the band split-up two years later. I do not know the reasons, but it can not have been due to the quality of the music, at least from today’s point of view. Eleven songs that know how to convince with an exciting mixture. The raw and brute core of eighties Death Metal in the vein of early DEATH and AUTOPSY. Accordingly to this there is a huge British influence, making me think of names like BENEDICTION and BOLT THROWER. By the way, in 1992 NAPALM DEATH released “Utopia Banished” and this album along with its predecessor “Harmony Corruption” is probably the biggest influence. A very special blend of Death Metal with a huge Grindcore influence. Responsible for the vocals is someone who calls himself “Crass”, which is quite fitting, since he is able to perform both deep grunts as well as a more shouting style. Who, like me, missed the band 30 years ago and the first re-release in 2015, should definitely grab it now. As bonus the demo “Collective Hypnosis” from 1991 is added. By the way, CRUSHER have reunited in 2014 and released a split 12″ with French compatriots MERCYLESS in 2015. Greek independent label Repulsive Echo Records is going to release only 300 CD copies with Sewer Grinder Records cutting it on 500 LP pieces, both with revamped artwork cover designed by Giannis Nakos.
