CRYPTICUS
They Called Me Mad
(Razorback Recordings)
36:11min

What a strange mix of goofy pulp horror, and dead serious writing. CRYPTICUS are unashamed Lovecraft readers and, from the sound of it, no less proud followers of Death Metal’s earliest beginnings in the work that REPULSION and NECROPHAGIA produced. The NECROPHAGIA influence may not be apparent throughout much of the album, but it is there nontheless in slight, short bursts. The REPULSION presence is much more apparent. In addition to all of the above, CRYPTICUS have added a modernized version of Death’n’Roll similar to NOMINON which makes the album even more of a theme park roller coaster ride of horror. CRYPTICUS have written a book of sorts in music form. Stephen King will be looking over his shoulder once CRYPTICUS swallow half the world. www.myspace.com/crypticus, www.geocities.com/crypticult
