CRYPTWORM
Spewing Mephitic Putridity
(Pulverised Records)

I think it is important I say this very clearly, CRYPTWORM’s tone takes me to DEMILICH. Right from the first note, I had this jabbing feeling in my mind and it took me a moment but yeah, that tone is just unmistakable! However, what happens as you listen to ‘Disgorged Chunks Of Life’ is that you realize that CRYPTWORM actually write riffs in the vein of the overlords. I really enjoy these attacking riffs that don’t just meander but take us into the corners of the writing process and thus the songs themselves. CRYPTWORM clearly have a kickass songwriting approach, coupled with a no-nonsense-delivery mechanism, their Death Metal is muddy, dirty, raw and bumpy! I’m really enjoying what I’m listening to so far. The opening riffs to ‘Disembowelment (Draped In Gore)’ are the perfect example of CRYPTWORM paying homage to the Finnish greats. “Spewing Mephitic Putridity” on the whole is the culmination of fantastic riff writing and a bloody low tone which make this album twice as enjoyable. This is perhaps one of the earliest releases on the year to perhaps get into consideration towards end of the year lists. The band keep it simple, they let the nastiness come through without shame or hesitation. They focus on the riffs and the drumming is literally perfect, it suits the message that’s been delivered and carries it with no hesitation whatsoever! If you’re a fan of Death Metal, you definitely need to give this a listen, granted, on the first listen it’ll perhaps come across as a run of the mill release but please do pay some attention to unearth the brilliant work that CRYPTWORM delivered in this 34 minute album.
