There is this scene in the Star Wars spin-off “The Mandalorian” when Werner Herzog in his role as the “Client” says “Bounty hunting is a complicated profession.” Taking up this quote, I would like to modify it a little into “Choosing a band name is a complicated profession”. While I was searching the internet about CUM CHALICE I discovered that there is a meme called “consume the cum chalice”. So whatever the band had in mind or what the listeners may think, for some people the term “cum chalice” is connected to a funny little joke. And I am not sure if the band really intended it that way, because the music is neither Porn Grindcore nor any other funny sub-genre. By the way, there is another band of the same name which as well released a demo in 2021, so keep an eye on what CUM CHALICE your are about to taste. “Leather Sewer” is a three track demo, recorded last year at the Sculpt Sound Studio in Cologne, Germany. Musically it is a mixture of Death Metal in the vein of GRAVE MIASMA or OMEGAVORTEX and simple Black Metal. Nothing spectacular, but I guess no one expects something special or extraordinary from a demo. Personally I enjoyed the three tracks, especially the combination of plain Black Metal riffs of the first wave (VENOM, HELLHAMMER) and menacing Death Metal sounds refreshing to my ears. Although the term “refreshing” may be a bit out of place, the atmosphere is obscure and sinister. Hopefully the Dutch duo Spkrvst (vocals & synth) and Bltzr (guitars & drums) will continue with that style.
