Formed in 2004, and having released 4 demos thus far, it was about time for this 4-piece modern sounding Death / Thrash Metal act CURIMUS, to get their debut full-length studio outing released. The album’s name is "Realization", and it’s packed with aggression, hatred, talent – and with a twist to link them to a band like LAMB OF GOD. Indeed, LAMB OF GOD’s name was the first band name that popped up from the depths of my mind but I think nobody can really blame me for that because the connection to their ‘big brother’ is definitely there. However, in the very same breath it needs to be said that CURIMUS ain’t a LAMB OF GOD copycat band; their main stress is definitely on a more modern sounding Thrash Metal approach, in which they are good at. Having done over 70 gigs thus far, it also tends to speak for these lads’ playing skills pretty much, I believe. The band has gotten tighter and tighter over time playing wise as its own uncompromising unit – and that can really be heard on "Realization". All 11 tracks that they have featured on their debut record, hit you severely as lethal stray bullets. CURIMUS sound punishing and merciless 100% nonstop through each song on the record – and I think that may – however, turn out to be a little problem for them in the long run, I am afraid. Their songs are approx. 2-3 minutes in length only – and if forget to follow which song is which song, the songs easily tend to sound like there’s one single song on the record, resulting in a pretty mishmash wholeness in the end. Then again, nothing changes that fact "Realization" is a kinda powerful tour de force just for the debut album of CURIMUS – and if they’ll continue on their chosen path by delivering their goods this robustly on their upcoming releases, the road is completely wide open for them. Just beware the curves a little bit when speeding up, ok? Feel free to sneak more about them at: www.curimus.net, www.freezingpenguin.fi
