“Curse Of Khatru”, is the name of this 11 track debut album of the band CURSE OF KHATRU from Koblenz, Germany. I must say that (like the way the band is described by the label), they might take you back to the days when Death Metal was running out for being raw, aggressive and heavy oriented while still expressing a lot of melody in between here. That’s what I listened to! So, CURSE OF KHATRU is adding one more piece to the German underground Death Metal scene this 2025, packaging an album full of brutality and well defined. I found it an album that makes you want to bang your head and with enough texture to keep you locked in for multiple listens. The aggression is front and center in nearly every track, but it’s the guitar solos that really steal the show when they must be present. Rather than falling into the trap of aimless shredding, the solos here are carefully constructed, serving as emotional peaks that punctuate the heaviness and elevate the atmosphere of the album. Whether they’re soaring above the chaos or slicing through it like a knife, the solos are never out of place. I liked that combination and the way they show up on the album at the exact moment. This “Curse Of Khatru”, whether the band or the album, is definitely “unleashed, aggressive and song-oriented”.
