Is there ever enough good and muscular, riff-based old school Death Metal around these days? To answer to this question, truly depends on quite a few things actually but if it’s done the way this Umeå, Sweden-based 5-piece act DAEMONICUS does it, then I for one, would certainly say ‘no’. "Deadwork" is DAEMONICUS’ 2nd album already; the guys debuted on their "Host Of Rotting Flesh" in 2009 – and the band has only been around since 2006. Things tend to be developing pretty fast for some bands, I see. In DAEMONICUS’ case, simply basing my listening experience solely on their follow-up record "Deadwork", it’s good to see things developing somewhat fast, as "Deadwork" is a surprisingly solid and mature effort from these Swedes, offering basically those necessary ‘meat & potatoes’ but still doing it in a relatively convincing way after all; of the known and familiar Swedish style, I might add. DAEMONICUS’ bring out their true roots without any compromises or hesitations, sort of trusting firmly the blood that runs through their veins – every darn blood vessel in the guys’ bodies pumping up that of highly Swedish-colored blood that makes something to sound so Swedish – and even more downright and utterly very Swedish, you know. Go and collect a good pocketful of these certain fragments from the heavy soundscapes of such names as GRAVE, ENTOMBED, AMON AMARTH, UNLEASHED, then marinate these aforementioned fragments in question with slices of heavily rolling, BOLT THROWER-ish guitar patterns – and we have something in our hands here that may well sound close to a band like DAEMONICUS is. Brutal. Melodic. Pretty addictive, familiar yet so tempting in its own good way – that’s what DAEMONICUS have on offer on "Deadwork". Homework well accomplished, I really don’t wanna say more… Contacts: www.facebook.com/daemonicus.nu, label: www.officialabyssrecords.com
