DAMAGE SOURCE is a German Thrash Metal outfit. Since their first demo tape, "Raise Hell" from 2013, is available on bandcamp, I gave it a listen so I could have a point of comparison. One song off the original release is missing, but it doesn’t matter. These 3 songs showcase a decent production and a mix of German and Bay Area Thrash Metal with some growling vocals. They are not exactly growls, but low grunts. And they give the music a different taste, so to speak. On "Come Heresy", their most recent demo tape, the first thing I noticed was the evolution of the band. The German style is more present. Both Niko and Frank have some really catchy chops with both, tremolo and palm muted guitar riffs all over the place. Eric has a more defined voice, with those low grunts fitting perfectly into their music. And this time, Jo’s bass is clearer and it actually adds a lot to each song. A huge improvement from his messy bass sound off "Raise Hell". And the drum performance, courtesy of guest Ulaş Sağlam, is up to par with the aggressiveness that DAMAGE SOURCE displays in this 4 tracker. The sharper production and the well balanced mix make this demo tape a very enjoyable listen from start to finish. 15 minutes of old school flavored German Thrash Metal with a twist on the vocals. Add all that and you can’t go wrong with this stuff. The demo has been released digitally and on a limited tape edition of 100 copies, so act fast!
