DARK LEGION

The Gdansk area is a fertile ground for class Death Metal acts, and DARK LEGION is another proof of this statement. This Polish four piece comes out of nowhere yet to deliver a true masterpiece, a captivating album from the beginning to the end. The ten tracks on offer here are faultless, be it structurally or technically wise. Each of the four musicians displays a lot of talent and the whole band shows a huge amount of rage, passion and above all extreme tightness. I could only liken DARK LEGION to CRYPTOPSY, NECROPHAGIST and especially YATTERING because of their complexity level, but saying that I realize that it is very difficult to exactly define what is happening on "Bloodshed". Yes, the DARK LEGION songs are complex, full of unexpected breaks, bizarre twists and whirling riffs, but the whole result is far more decipherable and fluid (or if you want less experimental) than what you can hear on "And Then You’ll Beg" (CRYPTOPSY) or "Murder’s Concept" (YATTERING). The songs (well complimented by a thick and raw production) sound familiar and yet a touch of freshness and originality could always be heard, as it is often the case with the polish bands. DARK LEGION could appeal to both MORBID ANGEL and CANNIBAL CORPSE ("Bloodthirst") fans, and this is very difficult to melt together like that two different Death Metal styles on one album. Just listen to "Razor", with its killing intro, and you will know what I mean. Expect a true musical carnage of the highest quality that will let you for dead at first hearing and then eager to listen to it again and again. With the first NEPHAST effort, this is for me the best pure Death Metal album this far in 2001. Don’t miss the opportunity to be exposed to this little gem, and contact Deadsun Records at gurkkhas@aol.com (website: http://deadsun.multimania.com) for more information. And enlist without delay into the dark legion!
