DEADLY CARNAGE
Through The Void, Above The Suns
(Aeternitas Tenebrarum Musicae Fundamentum)
45:22min

Fourth album by DEADLY CARNAGE from Italy and the band’s name is the only memento of the Black / Thrash Metal the band used to play in their earlier days. According to their biography they changed more and more, playing a style which they described with terms like Post-Rock and Post-Metal. Good heavens! There it is, that little nasty word "post". Few other words I hate more when describing music. If a band used to play Black / Doom / Viking or whatever kind of Metal and then swings to Indie / Alternative Rock, Progressive Metal or Ambient Metal, please, call a spade a spade and do not lead people astray. "Through The Void, Above The Sun" is a concept album, dealing with cosmos, vibrating energies whispering between the spheres and drawing a line from birth to death of the universe, the essence of stars and the quantic lung from which each individual being is nothing but a fractalized breath. Sounds pretty strange and grotesque, but definitely more stimulating than the so often used hackneyed phrases. When it comes to the music… well, I stopped listening to acts like ENSLAVED, ULVER or IHSAHN quite a few years ago and the Ambient Metal scene is nothing but a great unknown for me. Sometimes the music reminds me of BORKNAGAR, especially the more dynamic parts underlined with clear singing. Other times I feel like listening to mainstream stuff like RADIOHEAD. So the best I have to say about this album is, if you are at least a little bit open-minded you will be rewarded by pleasant and gratifying moments. Not to forget the remarkable artwork, a fine piece of visual art. www.facebook.com/deadlycarnage, www.atmf.net
