Originally hailing from Ireland, DEADSPEAK has taken on an international flair after relocating and signing with the Polish label Monomaniax. Their debut album “Human Alchemy” was released in late 2023 but feels as if it could have emerged straight from the early ’90s. This two-piece band, consisting of Krakus and Latex, has been grinding away since 2008, with a few line-up changes along the way. The record contain eleven tracks and from the get-go with the beginner ‘Rebel Angel’ it feels engaging. Latex, the vocalist delivers deep-throat vocals that are raw yet intelligible, combining English and Polish lyrics that explore themes of darkness and death throughout the record. From there to the tracks ‘Spiritual Vermin’, ‘Saint Sekarius Mass’, ‘Deadspeak’, ‘Inversion Of The Holy Cross’, ‘I Do Choose Darkness’, ‘When The Ghost Attacks’ to ‘Ritual In Progress’ it delves into the occult, featuring songs about ghosts, spirits and ritual black magic, which adds depth beyond the typical gore and brutality often associated with the genre. Krakus’s old school soloing style is particularly impressive – subtle yet skilled, displaying his talents without turning into excessive flashiness. Remarkably, track ten, ‘Tired Eyes Of Haunted House’, stands out as an instrumental piece, rich with atmosphere and acoustic passages. The production quality is commendable, with each element well balanced in the mix, and including the provoking cover art make this record a well-executed example of solid Death Metal over something overly technical or modern.
