DEATH POWER
Vivisection / Demos 1987

To be honest I had higher expectations on this release, because the only album recorded by these French Thrashers in 1990 (“The Bogeyman” – Virulence Records) was amazing. And after checking its amazing re-release (“The Bogeyman Returns” – Triumph Ov Death Records, 2016), I was expecting nothing but another great compilation CD. But I’m a bit disappointed, because this CD only compiles the first two rehearsal demos and its sound isn’t the best. I can understand it, because it’s conformed by the oldest recordings of the band, in the form of the “Speed-Thrash-Core-Machine” demo (rehearsal) and the “Keep Fit, Fuck More…“ demo, both recorded and released in 1987, where we can listen to primeval versions of such classics as ‘Vivisection’, ‘Wendigo’, ‘The Bogeyman’ and ‘Satan Litanies’ etc. The first demo sometimes sounds similar to the first HELLHAMMER demo, but not as good as the Swizz gods, mixed with some touches of (early) SLAYER, SODOM, DESTRUCTION and BATHORY. Then the second demo shows us an “evolution” in the band’s sound and an improvement in the production towards their personal Death / Thrash core exhibition highly praised on posterior releases. But don’t misunderstand me, the songs are catchy, intense, good riffing, but the production plays against this release. In my personal opinion, it would have been more interesting if the label would has considered to include the “Deathpower” EP from 1989. But after listening to it a couple of times more, I ended accepting its rawness. Anyway, I know a lot of you would love it, then hurry up, because it’s very limited. www.facthedral.com
