Allston, Massachusetts has bred a blackened Death Metal band which envelops everything I like about this genre. DEATHGOD MESSIAH’s cassette EP "Phallic Flagellation" is a straightforward, quick and to the point deliverance of blasphemy and sex. The barbaric quality of the recording keeps it raw and powerful. A two-minute intro blasts into the aggressive repugnance of ‘Phallic Flagellation’, setting the tone for this 16-minute EP, before ‘Like Father, Like Son’ demolishes us with a bloody fist of utmost fury. ‘God Is Dead’ is another track of flesh-ripping angst which cannot be equaled in its delivery. A slight hint of ARCHGOAT along with a persistent will to destroy all in its path, it’s impossible not to be sucked into this apocalyptic hell. And if you expect this EP to take a slightly different turn, there’s no need to fear. ‘The Word Of The Law’ doesn’t veer from the path. Consistency in this style of Metal is what we crave. And DEATHGOD MESSIAH understands this. They pull no punches as they shatter our jawbone. ‘Gilded Coffin’ then picks it up and swallows it whole. And guess what? ‘Blasphemous Suicide’ stomps on our faces to crush the remaining bones and sinew. The outro to wrap this up isn’t so much an outro as a mocking beast leaving us to lay crumpled on the ground begging for death. There’s no diversity in "Phallic Flagllation". There’s no experimentation. There’s no acoustic meanderings. There’s no trying something new to change things up. And thank god for all of that.
