DEATHROW
Deception Ignored

The third album of this German band. I liked their previous albums, specially the second one that I still consider as a masterpiece. One day in late 1988 two records arrived in my hands. One was ”…And Justice For All” from a San Francisco band I think… the other was this one. But, but… the cover art… what is this abstract modern art thing? Is it the same band? Well, the logo seems to be the same, but, oh boy, back then the cover art was VERY important, I mean it was like the indication of what music was behind. So, after some very cool cover arts and now we get this sort of abstract art… into the music, well, yes it is DEATHROW, their sound is there, but they have taken a turn into a more technical direction, and much to my dismay, they now sound americanized. Add to that Milo’s vocals at times sounded like Joey form ANTHRAX! Yes, it was true, the band has taken a slight change in direction. The heaviness of the last album is no more, they still keep on some speed, and yes, some riffs are definitely their trademark, but it also sounds forced like to have a more wider spectrum in their fan base. Now, 30 years later I think I can appreciate this album a bit more, yet it has drifted away from that German sound to be, I do not know, maybe more commercial. At times I get a VOIVOD – ish vibe but I am almost sure it was a mere coincidence. Fans of technical Speed / Thrash will surely appreciate this. Back in the day, if you were into later CORONER, FORCED ENTRY, MEZZROW or MORDRED, this was for you. Not a bad album in any way, yet different in many ways to their more raw and thrashy first albums. https://deathrowmetal.bandcamp.com, www.noiserecords.net
