I was quite skeptical before listening to DEGIAL’s new album “Predator Reign” because their second album “Savage Mutiny” totally sucked in my eyes. The debut “Death’s Striking Wings” was awesome, an ass kicking wild beast of savage old school Death Metal. And I loved the band’s incredible killer live performance at Killtown Deathfest 2011, which was nothing but vicious old school Death Metal at its best. But then the band released “Savage Mutiny” in 2015 and I was truly disappointed. Maybe I expected too much but those Swedish fiends went into the wrong direction and changed their style. That was definitely the wrong decision. A wise man and old friend of mine described the problem as: “Savage Mutiny” is way too much DISSECTION and way too less MORBID ANGEL. And that was the truth… Fortunately DEGIAL is back on the track, got rid of those melodic Black Metal influences and finally sounds like a real Death Metal band again. “Predator Reign” is way better than “Savage Mutiny”. Although I would say that the debut is still the band’s best effort so far, “Predator Reign” is a damn fine piece of dark, sinister, unholy and vicious old school Death Metal, strongly influenced by early MORBID ANGEL and POSSESSED. There are furious songs, fierce and violent vocals, a powerful production and a wicked atmosphere. Of course there’s nothing new, too spectacular or innovative… it’s just ass-kicking Death Metal. www.degialofficial.com, www.facebook.com/degial-176386435721954, www.sepulchralvoice.de
