Congratulations Sepulchral Voice Records. Hats off for having such a vicious roster. With such a vast range of styles in between and obviously an inexhaustible fountain of crucial outputs. What’s supposed to go awry with bands like CHARON, GRAVE MIASMA, DROWNED, INVIDIOUS, NECROS CHRISTOS or DEGIAL? As long as they don’t team up for a “super group” playing technical Death or Power symphonic airbrush Metal, nothing. Even though Sepulchral Voice have signed more big names, this list already includes bands and records to which quite a few, even bigger labels, can’t ever keep up. With each of them having released outstanding records, currently and over the past years, it wasn’t a big question if “Savage Mutiny” could inspire too. After “Death’s Striking Wings” which in my ears was a unique piece of Death Metal, I believe it wasn’t that easy to create something which can continue such success. But DEGIAL managed it somehow. I wouldn’t necessarily call it is as outstanding as “Death’s Striking Wings” but it’s the logical consequence of it. And unique in the way of how this Uppsala gang is able to combine old school Death Metal ideas and new unusual Death / Black Metal philosophy. Still providing a special aura of something, no one else has. Something between Doom, Heavy Metal, traditional Swedish Black / Death Metal and raw Punk Rock. A bastard born monster of BLACK SABBATH, LED ZEPPELIN, MOTÖRHEAD, DISSECTION and DISCHARGE. I can’t even tell what’s that special ingredient. But their style seems somehow psychedelic and traditionally Blues inspired. Concentrated with a taste of destruction and the muddiest elements of animalistic hate. Something I exclusively witness from this malicious pack (also mentionable for being able to handle this secret knowledge are INVIDIOUS or ENSNARED). The sound is a dirty, unpopular concession to modern recording methods and uninitiated spirits. Catchy as fuck and entertaining like Kosovo government meetings. Arranged and played by enormous talented musicians. Means on “Savage Mutiny” is nothing too much or the other way round, somehow missing. It’s Death evoking chaos. It’s inexorable evil. It is the perfect circle how simple aggression turns into a blood bath. No long-winded intro or anything factitious. You count to eight and the journey begins. And if you listened to “Death’s Striking Wings” before, you’ll recognize the blood soaked ground you walk on. Pretty sure “Savage Mutiny” can help inspire your future projects for next year. Maybe something extravagant about your own Death?!
