Metal can be such a diverse kind of music… Italians DEMENTIA SENEX proves it, with a style hard to define or even to compare. On this 3 song EP they prove that music can still recall horrors, something very few bands can achieve without falling into the ridicule. Whilst there are very few bursts of speed, mostly it is all done in a mid tempo pace with such an aura of despair, that it reminds me at times of a more melodic and controlled style like that used by bands like PORTAL or GORGUTS with a touch of progressive in line of later ENSLAVED, but with a deep Death Metal essence, that at times can only be compared to the French band SUPURATION. This technical style of despair and aggression in Death Metal is certainly not for everyone, thus it has to be approached with caution. There are hardly any parts that can recall a good old Thrash headbang part, and yet it does have a charm on its own and it is just in the right place in the technical composition and execution. Fans of technical Death Metal or complex brutal music will be delighted. For an EP and the style of music, the 17 minutes contained here are in the right balance, and I must add, quite enjoyable. Still, for the style, I am not sure if a full length will have the same impression, yet bands like polish SCEPTIC once proved me wrong that even complex Death Metal can also be killer at the same time.
