DEMON HEAD
Demo 2014

This time, Caligari Records strayed very much off course. At least in comparison to the stuff Hansel released up to now. DEMON HEAD is a pretty young band from Copenhagen in Denmark. Young in concern of its existence, for they started playing as a band in spring of 2012. But the five musicians are pretty experienced, playing or having in other bands as well, with freestyle Space Rockers ØRESUND SPACE COLLECTIVE being the best known name to me. The term "Space Rock" already hints a little bit on what is to expect from DEMON HEAD. The four songs here are deeply rooted in the Rock music of the late 1960s and early 1970s, the music bands like CIRITH UNGOL or PENTAGRAM took all their influences from to evolve their unique style. In contrary to these Metal bands, DEMON HEAD haven’t really made a giant step towards Heavy Metal, instead they play a very old school version of what might be Doom Metal. When I listened to the songs here, it seemed to me that the last 30 years of musical evolution didn’t happen. The guitars sound very organic, with effects that might had been used by JIMI HENDRIX already. Add a voice that expresses dark magic and musical warmth at the same time. And as a foundation, DEMON HEAD has a very unspectacular rhythm section, in the most positive meaning of the word. The drummer has a basic Rock groove style of playing and the bass guitar is used to give the musical framework the depth and warmth it needs. As far as the production is concerned, the music sounds as analog as possible, which means: DEMON HEAD sound warm, not a tiny bit artificial and so they please my ears to the max. If you need some guidance: imagine DEMON HEAD as a mix of PENTAGRAM, hard classic Rock music and a little bit BLACK SABBATH, and you might be able to figure out how these Danes sound. If that appeals to you, you shouldn’t hesitate to check them out and probably get the tape from Caligari. This tape meets the high standards the label has set, featuring a professional printed cover, and is, as usual, limited to 100 copies.
