DEMON LUNG
Pareidolia

Hailing from the USA, Las Vegas’ own DEMON LUNG have arrived to the Doom Metal world with their initial 4 track EP offering of sludgy misanthropic psalms. The self financed endeavor is entitled "Pareidolia" and proves to be a contender to watch out for in the future. Fronted by female vocalist Shanda Fredrick, these guys sound like a modern day CATHEDRAL or a modern version of the self-titled BLACK SABBATH album. Kicking things off is the track ‘Lament Code’, a nice eerie yet somehow soothing track. Shanda’s vocals really remind me of Grace Slick from JEFFERSON AIRPLANE. The guitars are very well produced and give a thick heavy sound. Slow tremolo and a solid backbone drum beat keep this track trucking along. The band is not reinventing the wheel here and stick to the formula that has previously worked well for other Stoner-Doom acts. ‘Sour Ground’ extends the vocal capabilities and introduces more reverb / echo vocals to the mix. A nice enticing piece that I can say was my favorite jam from this EP. ‘Death Mask’ is where the guitars really take the spotlight and come forth more so than the previous two tracks to the point where the guitars drown out the vocals and drums. The chunky riffs became a bit monotonous towards the later end of the song and honestly I lost a bit of interest. Lastly is ‘Pareidolia’ which provides a fitting end to the EP. The flow of the song maintains the mid-paced choppy guitars and is the longest song running at just short of 6 minutes. I liked the guitar hooks that were provided throughout the song. In summary, DEMON LUNG seem to be on the right track to becoming a nice member to the modern Doom Metal dynasty. While this is not your typical Doom Metal act as this band leans more towards a hybrid of Stoner and Doom. Trippy vocals, entrancing guitars, and sludgy riffs that provide a nice background to await the end of time. I think it will be a matter of time before these guys get picked up by a label and record a full length album. For more info: www.demonlungband.com, www.facebook.com/demonlungband?sk=wall
