DESERT CRONE is a Doom / Stoner / Dread Metal band from Sweden if I am not wrong. This is a 3 song demo tape of really heavy, slow paced and sorrowful sounding Metal that takes elements from bands like CROWBAR, BLACK SABBATH, VENOM and early CATHEDRAL to name a few. And with a very basic recording sound, like if it was done in the 70s after smoking tons of weed and desecrating some corpses. The cover art is quite psychedelic and without a doubt recalls the art for “Master Of Reality”. The guitar tone is quite interesting and one can almost feel how the guitar strings are loose. It is quite hypnotic at times, and has a cavernous tone that goes quite well with the overall idea of the band. And the songs are long, very long. Maybe the vocals might sound a bit out of place, as the trippy / hippy music sometimes calls for the sounds of a more melodic singer, but this band is all about damnation, so they fit well after all. An interesting band that more than once reminded me of some more obscure Death / Doom bands like CASTLE, NECROSCHIZMA and similar entities, although firmly based in Stoner and traditional very old school Metal in the Iommy tradition.
