DEVASTATION
Leather Jack Maniac
(Black Cat Records)

Four Thrashers from Belgium joined forces to pay tribute to the glorious old School Thrash Metal movement of the 80s. Having started their trade still as a traditional Metal outfit under the moniker BLACK FUEL in 2004 the band changed its musical direction and the name into DEVASTATION two years later. Rehearsals became obviously more serious which resulted in the first three track output simply called "Demo 2007". After a lot of sweat, hard work and a few years later the four piece from East Flanders teamed up with Black Cat Records to infest the world finally with their debut album entitled "Leather Jack Maniac". This ten tracker, thrown on the market in 2011, really invokes the good old Thrash spirit and delivers total manic, aggressive headbanging stuff played on insane speed. Pure violence, a sheer metallic frenzy if you ask me. The compositons are driven by razor blade sharp riffs and merciless drum work which leave a path of total destruction. The vocals, performed by Mathieu, are raging, always at the edge of insanity. Like you can imagine this horde doesn’t re-invent the wheel nor do these Belgians come up with the latest inovations. That’s also not their mission like they explicitly mention in their info. As for me I enjoy such a honest pure metallic storm much more than lame, technical sophisticated stuff which might be musically top notch but with a headbanging factor close to zero. "Leather Jack Maniac" is a slap in your face with a good sound and cool, partly acid-tongued, cliche laden lyrics. So if you miss the good old days when Thrash Metal was without compromise and your list of worship includes acts like old KREATOR, old DESTRUCTION, old SLAYER, SADUS, DEATHROW, DARK ANGEL and other bands of the same calibre then what are you waiting for?
