What do you think of when you read the name DIAMOND HEAD? I think of a legend. That’s what DIAMOND HEAD is. And it’s incredible to listen to these monsters of Heavy Metal playing a live set with songs that we all grew up with. DIAMOND HEAD is one of those bands that has seen the rise and fall of many trends, the ages in the scene and changes in their own line-up, but preserving its soul and body. “Live And Electric” is a live album that speaks on clarity, execution and pure Heavy Metal vibe. They’ve been here putting out their music for almost 50 years and they still got the heavy. Brian Tatler brings the same focus and energy he did decades ago and you can tell this is still very much his band. He plays like it. Rasmus Bom Andersen, now several years deep into his role as frontman, owns the rights. His vocals are aggressive and for me, he brings a confidence that rolls with every song. He is not trying to imitate the past, instead, he is putting his own identity within it, and it works perfectly. The band’s rhythm section holds everything together with precision. Paul Gaskin on bass and Karl Wilcox on drums keep things driving forward without letting anything slip. Andrew “Abbz” Abberley fills out the sound on guitar with the kind of restraint that complements Tatler’s playing. They’re not competing. They’re complementing. “Live And Electric” rolls through different phases of DIAMOND HEAD’s discography. You have older songs sitting alongside newer ones, which gives the set a really natural vibe, the transitions never fail and I really encountered that here everything sounds alive, not like simply sticking in the past. To me, this is Heavy Metal done the way it is supposed to be: honest, loud and to the point. For a band with this much history, DIAMOND HEAD sounds remarkable without trying to be “modern”. “Live And Electric” is not simply one more live album, it’s a declaration that DIAMOND HEAD still has their identity. They are not coasting on reputation. They are still putting in the work, still playing with intent and still sounding like they belong exactly where they are: on stage, in control and fully electric.
