Formed back in 2007 in Latvia, this band went straight to record their debut album. The first thing that strikes me is the crunchy guitar tone, which itself reminds me of the Sunlight Sound records that does not sound like ENTOMBED… in fact the sound reminded me more of the way Dan Swanö used to record in his Unisound studios… thus it recalls a bit bands like early OPETH and early KATATONIA, with a nod touch of technical Doom Metal. For some reason they also reminded me a bit of the mighty FORSAKEN from Malta, although DISEIM’s style is firmly rooted in Death Metal and has probably less hooks in their music. Yet, I really like the way they do present their heaviness and the subtle but effective use of the bass. While I like the deathly vocals the band uses, at times a little bit more of variety and emotion would suit it a bit better. There are heavy traces of old PARADISE LOST and I can also sense a galloping mid-tempo MASTER influences hidden there, thus it can be related to the Swedish old school Death Metal. Lyrically they tend to deal with apocalyptic visions, which maybe the cover art is related to. There are a few songs with some burst of speed like ‘Pyromania’ which should be used more in next efforts as the band sounds good and never loses heaviness. A quite interesting debut album which shows a band that possesses a bright yet gloom future ahead.
