DISGUSTOR was a two men project formed in 1998 in Norrköping, Sweden. Drummer Micael Zetterberg is very active in the underground scene and decided to release two of their three rehearsal tapes as a compilation tape, limited to 66 copies. The band played that kind of melodic Death / Black Metal, which was very popular in the mid 90s and became well known as the classic Gothenburg style. Especially their second demo "The Nocturnal Duty" seems to be heavily influenced by bands like DISSECTION, EUCHARIST and AT THE GATES. The three presented songs on this demo have a very professional quality and very well songwriting, using the typical trademarks of this style with good song structures and a very nice melodic lead guitar. Especially the track ‘The Nocturnal Duty’ brings back some memories of a very special album called "The Somberlain", with some dark and grunted vocals. Unfortunately the market was totally swamped with talented newcomers at that time playing that genre, so it started to die out for a while and a lot of newcomers got stuck in the demo stage. "The Cellar Sessions" from 2000 shows a development in the material and songwriting, leaving behind the heavy DISSECTION influences and moving into a more blackend direction, but still with melodic leads and slight Thrash Metal influences. The last track ‘Embraced By Darkness’ is a good Death / Thrash song with nice melodic parts. After that, the band seems to have disbanded and the members focused on several other projects. The idea, to keep the legacy of the band alive with this special limited release is nice and for fans of rough underground stuff in vein of the above mentioned protagonists, worth checking out.
