DISMA
The Vault Of Membros

With members of INCANTATION, FUNEBRARUM and METHADRONE my expectations were really high. And I was not disappointed, not at all. "The Vault Of Membros" is undeniable proof that there are still bands playing good old Death Metal the way it was meant to be played: heavy and massive. And don’t take my words lightly. There are 17 minutes of sheer aggression in this little bastard! The music here has a lot of good influences, ranging from early Swedish Death Metal like UNLEASHED and CARNAGE to 90s US Death Metal like AUTOPSY and (obviously) INCANTATION. But fear not, DISMA is no rip off and came up with one hell of a demo tape. First off, the overall sound may be a little mushy for purists but the raw production adds a lot to the evil atmosphere surrounding this 3 song demo. So don’t expect drum triggers, digital fx and the likes. This is raw Death Metal with an attitude. Pummeling drums (flawlessly executed by the way) courtesy of Shawn Eldridge (FUNEBRARUM) and Randi Stokes’ heavily distorted bass guitar are the perfect backbone for the twin guitar attack from Daryl Kahan (FUNEBRARUM) and Bill Venner (INCANTATION), the founders of the band. These two guys keep things happening every second. I definitively love the guitar work; brilliant! And to top it off, the vocals of Craig Pillard are better than ever, a brutal yet original growl that suits the music well. The demo flows smoothly with one great riff after another, going from ultra sludgy doom metal with haunting melodies like the first part of ‘The Vault Of Membros’, to the tasty blast beats in ‘Lost In The Burial Fog’ and even some headbanging Thrash segments in ‘Chaos Apparition’. It’s incredible how DISMA comes up with songs that have a lot of variety (riff and rhythm wise) and never withdraw from your attention. This is a band that deserves respect and support! Totally recommended if you are into heavy and evil Death Metal! I read that you can get the demo by contacting Daryl Kahan through the band’s MySpace page www.myspace.com/dismadeathmetal, so go ahead and get it NOW!
